STEPS4GROWTH is a comprehensive, clean energy program led by North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
The vision of the STEPS4GROWTH project is to develop a national model for local workforce development that creates an inclusive pipeline of professionals in Clean Energy through innovative partnerships and competency-based training, empowering individuals to attain Good Jobs and support sustainable career pathways with family-sustaining wages.
STEPS4GROWTH has connected over 500 people to new jobs in North Carolina since September 2022.
The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality has set a goal to reduce electric power sector greenhouse gas emissions by 70% below 2005 levels by 2030 and attain carbon neutrality by 2050.
Creating a clean energy workforce requires inspired job seekers with the right skillset, dedicated educational partners who can ensure they are producing graduates for these good-paying jobs, and committed and innovative employers.
Twelve community colleges across four regions of the state are part of the STEPS4GROWTH program. They are working with us to create a curriculum and online courses that prepare students and provide the hands-on training they need for the readily expanding clean energy jobs.
From large companies like Duke Energy to small, local HVAC companies, participants have a wide range of options for internships, earn-and-learn opportunities and part-time roles that can lead to full-time employment offerings after completing their training. Apprenticeships opportunities are also widely available.
